Lotsa electrical probs.

Huh
Hi all.
Must be a scorpio bug around, just bought me a 2.0 16 valve estate and I must admit that its worrying the wife a bit as I only bought my current car, a scorpio cossie a few weeks ago.
Bought it off of ebay for the woppin sum of £78.02 ( he wasna happy about that). Bodywork is all good with NO RUST, a few minor car-park dings here and there and it does have a few prob's, has a couple of months mot, air con etc is all ok, (or should I say was when I first had it). Just have to add a new radio, sort out the damage to the bumpers and sort out electrics.
So far from cleaning the fuseboxes and relays I have managed to gain all rear lights, interior lights, sunroof, leccy windows and mirrors and blower motor. I did have air con but now cannot hear the compressor 'kick in' so not so good and I did have no. 2 speed on the wipers but that has now dissapeared. Also, no front lights at all (except hazards and indicators) and yes, have checked the loom at the front.
Have read thru a lot of the posts and have checked bottom of fuse box etc and checked all the tabs are present for the fuses and relays. I can also hear the relay click when I switch on the front lights and the chime sounds when I open the door.
I do hope the wife will sell her escort and have this as soon as it is all done but 3 days on am still a bit stumped.
Any advice appreciated.
Tom

hi there

can you give us some more details about the fuseboxes. did you have them apart? all fuses and relays out?
re the front lights. we had an issue with 1. the light switch. it can get burned out (multi-plug on rear). 2. one connector on rear of fusebox falls out slightly, hence no front lights.

get back to us on these points.

It may be worth checking the multiplug which supplies the fusebox on drivers side, after some checks I had many of the symptoms you mention and discovered the plug had not been refitted properly.

It operates with a metal locking arm, unless it is started properly it seems to lock but some of the pins don`t touch.

Wow!     £78.02p,  or did you miss out a zero?

I  nearly  paid  more  than   that  for  just  a  Scorpio  CD autochanger  on E-Bay.

      Well done!

Hi all, no, not the painters 1, this 1, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7168215696& ssPageName=ADME:B:EOAB:UK:6
Will check the multiplug, have had that disconnected to check all the pins etc but all seems ok. I am just presuming that the boxes got wet although they were not wet when I got the car. Its just that the covers were just 'resting' on the boxes. Also there is no battery cover so will source 1 asap. There is no dampness and no corrosion at all on any fuse, relay or in the boxes.
Will have another go today after some zed's (night hgv driver) and will let you know how I get on.
Many thanks to all.
Will give them another good check

Grin
Hi all, sorted! well, mostly.
T'was the multiplug, Thanks for that! Was not seating properly and I also noticed a couple of the pins were pushed thru so all is ok with all the lights.
All that needs to be done now is the front intermittants and the bum seems to sit up so I'm presuming the self leveling is on the blink. Is this automatic on these?
Many thanks to all for the advice.
