Radiator and hose identification problems

Hi there,

Well we finally started the re-fit of the replacement engine into the Scorpio today, we had already had to order several new parts as the garage that had worked on the car previously had lost them!

One thing the previous garage did was install a new radiator which they assured me was the correct type for the Cosworth but when we went to re-connect the hoses from the overflow tank I am left with two spare that have had large bolts thrust inside them in an attempt to plug them!!!!  Shocked

One hose we have identified (FINIS number 7330625) should connect to the upper right side of the radiator (the small diameter one) but is plugged because there is no connection pipe on the radiator.

The third hose (again small diameter) which runs from the overflow tank (FINIS number 7165411) is plugged but we can not find anywhere that this hose would connect to?  I was wondering if this is just a trailing hose to allow any overflow to merely drop onto the roadHuh  In the Microcat system the drawing just shows this hose as dropping downwards but not connecting to anything.

So what I need is:

1.  Is it crucial that there is no connection from the overflow tank to the radiator?

2.  Is the third hose merely a overflow pipe aloowing the escape of any excess fluid to the ground, or should it connect somewhere?

Thanks.

It sounds as thiough the radiator that has been fitted is the one from the 12v which is different. the 24 v has a small connnection to the top of the rad. (The 24 V guys will tell you )

and yes the over flow just goes down the offside of the engine compartment and hangs there just below the chassis member I cannot remember if its clipped in place without looking

Thanks Snoops.  I was assured at the time of the radiator being replaced (old one had ballooned and it was actually a 12v type, fitted by previous owner), that new radiator was the correct 24v type which had larger cores and was physically larger than the 12v rad they removed.
Is it truly necessary to have this small hose connect to the rad?  What's it's real purpose?

STN, any advice mate?

Hi Craig .. you're doing great mate from what I can see ... well done mate ..
.. regarding the rad ...YES .. it is necessary .. and yet again it has probably contributed to all your problems < despite the lack of " running time " >
..I did point it out way back when they said it would be a 24v .. but I guess you remember that... and what can we expect from you know who !! ..

glad that you're actually persevering with it too ! .. regards ..  STN
