cooling system....

Hi all, I have a problem with 2.3 scorpio ghia x estate auto.  On a recent long journey it was losing water. Upon closer inspection I think there may be a blockage in cooling system , as when I rev engine water is taken in from expansion tank, and when idling it chucks water back into tank and overflows. Could this be a blockage? and if so how do I flush system? (idiots guide please!!) Can I buy a miracle fluid to do this for me!!!!

Many thanks for reading this and all the best,
Soler.

could be a air lock .. Run the engine with the cap off and  the fron of the car raised or on a steep hill, try turning the heat control from cold to hot etc a couple of times .

If you want to flush the system then take the bottom hose off and back flush it using a hose pipe, of try taking one of the heater hose off and doing it from there, but be careful with those they are onto a plastic pipe and can break quite esily,

check that the thermostat is opening properly or even replace it.

Is your coolant temperature normal?
Does the heating work well?

temp normal, heating was poor on idle, but better when engine revved. I have followed advice of leaving cap off and running/topping up, and repeating this. Now the heater works at idle, so I'm hoping problem solved!!??!!
Thanks,Soler

hi there

keep an eye on it for a few days as 2.3 are bad for having a sticking thermostat. easy to replace, though.
