auto wont change past 2nd

hi all new guy hear to autos as well the prob i have is the car was fine stopped put some fuel in got back in and off i set only to find that in drive only had 1st gear changed down to 3rd still only 1st gear changed down to 2nd and the car changed up to 2nd gear but will not go to 3rd of 4th where ever you put it. have check oil in box its just over max when you do the thought the gears 3 times then check after a min also the car drives fine not slipping thanks for any help

this does not help me i think as mine is only the 2.9 12v with the 2 air flow meters please tell me if i am wrong cheers gavin

Im assuming since you can get it started you can select Park/reverse/Neutral ok and its not a problem with the selector switching? Could it be in Limited Operation Strategy?

OK Now I understand with it being the 12v..... By the ICV there ( under it actually) there is a small black Vacum Pipe which may have become detached. If so that can cause the problems you describe. But it worth checking all the vacum pipes for leaks etc as they are all interconnected.. Post back when you have checked.

the ICV is the silver canister looking thing near the air intakes with the throttle linkage to it . has a plug on the side of it .... see par 18 on thsi document it describes it as the ISC valve http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/engines/12v/V612VRem&Instal.pdf

hi snoopy well found it check the two pipes both on but when under the car i found one that runs from one side of the box right up into the engine bay and back down the other side looks like a breather to me but it just stops near the box on the other side cant see where it may go any more thoughts cheers gavin

hi all well the good news is a have all 4 gears back now the prob was a small black box at the front of the engine just below the icv and to the right took if off cleaned it up and wot do you know 4 gears back thanks to all for info and helping me out
