Hello.

I own a 96 Scorpio estate (2.3 16V) and have some serious problems with it.
When driving on the highway outside of Stockholm last week the car just died, I pulled over to the side and tried to restart the car but it failed. All that seemed to work was the interior lights and the radio.
I opened the bonnet to see if there was something obvious problem, but I could not see anything wrong. I tried to start the car again and sure, the engine was running but nothing else was Smiley I could not use the turn signals, I could not switch on the DRL, I could not switch on the wipers and all the instruments where dead.
I slowly drived to the next exit and just as we approached it, the headlight washers came to life and a second later all the instruments and other vital functions where working properly.
I hurried home, checked the fuses (saw no obvious problems) and took the car for a test. No problems what so ever.
But last night, when driving to the airport all instruments where dead from the start. DRL worked, but it was accompanied by the headlight washer that kept running as long as the DRL switch was turned on Smiley

I suspect some major electrical gremlin in the car, probably a damp (or ruined?) fusebox, but could it be something else? The engine is running fine, but all other functions are lost.

Has anyone experienced this in their car and can point me in the right direction?

Think you are probably right in thinking its a fusebox problem. Sounds like you might have water in it. Do you have a battery cover fitted? This is essential to keep the water out of the fusebox.

Yes, I have all the covers on, all the time. But, we've had some serious rain the last couple of weeks and yesterday it was very damp outside.

I'm just about to go out for a drive and when I return I will fit the cabin heater (remember, this is Sweden, where we get -25 celsius during the winter) just above the fusebox, trying to dry it out.

I will also visit a ford garage and have a chat with them about the problem.
