HEADLIGHTS WONT GO OFF!!!

Last weekend I moved car off drive to cut overhanging bush. When I went to put the car back on the drive, I noticed headlights on. Puzzled because I hadnt put them on, got in and went to switch them off, but the switch wasnt on! I knew I hadnt put them on, so how did they come on! More to the point, they would not switch off. I located ONE fuse for the driver side which I removed as it was the only way to switch the light off, but cannot locate the other fuse for passenger side light - would you believe.! The only way I can keep the lights off is by disconnecting the battery. Obviously I cant use the car because I cant get the lights to go off. Have booked 2 Auto Electricians this week and neither turned up!!!! ANY IDEAS PLEASE !!!!

firstly have you got a battery cover and a fuse box cover ?,if water has got in,you really need to dry it out completely..... could also be a dodgy headlight switch (quite common).. another place to look is the wiring and plug that supplies the power to the headlight switch, check here first and look for any burnt/charred contacts HTH

Thank you Craig and Baz for your help. Reg isnt here at the moment and wont get a chance to check this out till Saturday. (I am his wife - I do all the computer stuff). He is using a van at the moment. Will get back to you soon as possible when he has had a chance to follow suggestions. In the meantime, any other ideas anyone might have will be very welcome. Hello Mrs Reg!! Chances are it will be one of the two suggestions already stated. The back of the switch is very prone to overheating which melts the plastic allowing the contacts to touch. The other problem with the fuse box or battery cover is again a very common one because unknowing people take them off to change batteries or to charge it up and forget to put it back, first bit of water goes straight through to the fusebox and messes things up somewhat!! Tell Reg to check the two out as soon as he can Baz

Reg, (Or Mrs Reg!) read this http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/images/handbook130.gif. There are four fuses covering the headlamp circuits,Nos 4,5,10 and 11.All in the main fuse box . As has been said there can be real problems if water gets in to the fusebox but equally the switch can 'burn' out a contact. Good luck.

Make sure no ones swapped it for a Volvo when you werent looking Just a thought, if its parked under a bush/tree, check the drainage holes below the fuseboxes havent been blocked by leaves/twigs therefore letting water build up round the boxes
