i bought a 2litre ,95 ultima but remote locking does not work. Also, the red light on the dash seems inoperative when using the key.Should i automatically try new batteries first,or does it sound more sinister?

KSH, The two things are not connected. First, the remote. Check the batteries with a digimeter and check for 3v on both. If they are low, buy new ones, otherwise try programming the remote shown on http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/remote Next, look at http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/pats - this should show whether you have a problem with the antiftheft system, but normally if there was a problem with a key the car wouldn't actually start at all.

i have replaced the remote control batteries and it now works. Also, the control light does work. The remote is a bit temperamental but at least it works sometimes.
