Oxygen Sensor on Exhaust.

Hi, Failed on MOT because of high e-missions. So they put their computer on and the code told them that it was Sensor.
So fitted a new one.
Computer on dash board was saying 23.% MPG constant ever since I owned the car.
Now is saying 17.1 MPG. after 400 miles.
They fitted a non Ford one because it was £50 but a Ford one was about £100.
I told then I would rather have had the Ford on. They told me but they are all the same, no matter wich make of car.
They re-put the car on omissions test and on Computer and it giving a clean bill of heath. no codes faults. The car runs the same, as it always does.
Questions please. Are they all the same or do I need a proper Ford one.
Why this drastic drop in MPG. I suppose I should do a manual fuel check.
Should I have taken the car away with a failure certicate and run it for for some miles on some fuel injector cleaner. like catoclean.
Thanks to anyone who knows.

thanks to sncoopy.  So you are saying that the garage is correct that they are all the same, (as long as you get the correct one for your car).  So its a big saving, £50 for non Ford and £100 for Ford.
But that don't explain the car doing 23 MPG for the past two years then suddenly upon changing the sensor it crashes to 17.1 MPG.
Don't anyone dare tell me to clean the MAF. it was OK before the MOT so I would exspect it to be the same afterwards.
At the time I did not have a sensor but have a brand new Ford one now.
So I going to continue on with the non Ford one and then in July next year at MOT time have the Ford one put on and keep the non Ford one for a spare.
Just want to see what happens then. Yes I know I asked for advise, and now not taking it. but I do value your advise.
