Hi guys, can anyone tell me the weight of the saloon 2.3 as I want to buy a trolley jack (re-advice to others). Would i get away with a 1.5 lift and 2 ton holding ?

But if you are only lifting ONE wheel at a time then a 2 ton Jack will do fine but DO NOT WORK UNDER A VEHICLEON A HYDRAULIC JACK.. It is always advisable to use axle stands.
If its just to carry and use in an emergancy for wheel changing then it wil be more than adquate.
Trolly jacks are quite large in size but it is still possible toget bottle jacks which work on the same principle but take up less room and they are quite cheap.

Thank you snoops, I did look at the info site but it does not give the weight for the 2.3 saloon with a manual gearbox.
I was also considering a bottle jack but considering the low ride of the car would a bottle jack be low enough to get under the suspention points?

Each to their own. but I would never consider using a bottle Jack as a jack to have as part of a breakdown kit carried in the car. They not to bad in a garage on a flat surface. but even then I don't like then.
I have seen to many topple over as they have been raising the car up.
You can get smaller trolley jacks than the massive one that are mainly around. Some on Ebay. Just suitable for getting the one wheel off the ground. I carry one in my car. can't be bother with the Ford Wheel brace Jack, you are there for ever winding it up and down.

Bottle jacks are not a good idea even for a quick wheel change, like a previous poster said due to the lack of a secure baseplate and a high centre of gravity they are notoriously unstable and liable to topple.

Thanks guys...but I have just ordered a blinking bottle jack through screwfix 
What I will do is make a wooden base plate for the thing to sit on and start to look around for a small trolly jack that can live in the boot.
yer live and learn, but dont it tick you off 
Still........I will just have to bottle it up, wont I.

Well a proper trolley jack is easier to use, quicker & safer I would say. But if your not careful you could do alot of damage to the floor of the car, even possible to put a hole through it as the car is heavy. Bottle ones are a bit unsafe if your don't choc the wheels & it has to be flat, so be careful as already said.
The STD jack is a pain but how often do get a flat?

I was going to say all that Mr_floppy has said, but did not want to come in to hard. Bottle Jacks, I would never use. The higher you raise them the worst they become unstable.
But surely, that other post, no one puts the jack under the floor pan. you put the jack under the chassis points. (These are listed somewhere. either on this site. or somewhere. (Someone will tell us.)
Those pins as someone as already said are just a guide to locate the jack, you then have to slide them along all the way, even if you have to lighty tap them along.
A wonder if Mr. ferretmobile raise the car with the jack on the pin or did he slide it along all the way till it won't go any further.
If I see any nice jacks on ebay I will do a posting with the ebay number.
Lets not beat about the bush, You can't get any better than a trolley jack for general non professional use. garages. But even then, never, never be tempted to slide unneath any jack, yes even a trolley Jack, use strong sturdy car axle stands.

But can I just add, that the pin is just to get you sort of started, shall I say in the dark you can feel for it.
But then you must move the jack all the way along, till it won't go any further. If your pin is bend upwards a little you might have to tap the jack along with a few light taps with a hammer, No I did not say belt it with a lump hammer. I was going to say a heavy spanner, But not going to give anyone the chance to pull me up about mis-use of tools.
If you look at your car, you will see the pin becomes fatter after the first bit.
Tell you the truth, I forgotten all about these pins because I never use them..
On Ebay there are some alumin Jacks, light in weight, but about £125. or there abouts.
But I have seen smaller, short in lenght Jacks in shops for about £25.99, just right for tucking away at the back of your car boot.

Hi ferret screwfix have a 30 day returns policy so you could send it back as long as its in origional condition not very stable at all especially under a scorpio far better with a trolley jack malcolm

But get this.
I found the bottle Jack at £7.99 but there are two trolley jacks one at £59.99 and one at £14.99 which is 2 ton, (lifting 1.5 ton) at just £14.99.
If anyone goes to look at this can you tell us what you think.
You don't want a real heavy one if you going to keep it in the car, as long as it does the job of lifing one wheel at a time safely. I mean £14.99 which includes the VAT, Never seen any as cheap as this.

Mine cost £19.99, so not too far off your price.
Made in China with its own nifty carrying case, it always feels safe and secure . I know you're meant to use stands as well but I've changed both brake discs just using this trolley jack.
it's heavy but fine for carrying in the boot

I just looked at Argos web site and they have got RAC trolley jacks in a case together with axle stands and 2 wheel chocks for £29.99. If anyone want to look, they have a decent picture of them.
Surely Woolworth are not selling the same at £12.99. does Baz mean trolley jack or some other because he states hydraulic but does not use the word trolley.
I be nipping round tomorrow to the large Woolworth store near me.

Argos price is £29.99 for the RAC Jack but with axle stands and chocks (item 750664 but they do the Jack on its own at £19.99 (item 7506631) In both cases they come with a blown mould case. I don't remember seeing the Screwfix one with a case, but I could be wrong. (to lasy to go back and see).
The argos Jacks are like Baz says. All orange in body with the jacking arm and the handle in blue with the word RAC on them.
So Argos will take it back if you get it home and don't like it within a certain number of days. So it seems the best deal that I can see is Argos at £19.99 if you don't want the stands and chocks, that was before Baz came along with Woolworth at £12.99 and with axle stands and chocks.
I just wonder if that is those big out of town Woolworth super stores. I will go tomorrow to look at by city centre Woolworth.
