Everything was fine until yesterday when I turned the key and the starter turned very slow but not fast enough to start the car I tried it again and all i got was a click from the starter I jacked the car up and had a look at the contacts on the starter which seem fine, and gave the starter a tap with a small wooden hammer shaft After doing so there is now no click when i turn the key and no power to the starter. any help would be much appreciated as i am really stumped I have tried the fuses and relay r 11

Sounds like the Starter motor solenoid is sticking with the absence of rapid clicking or maybe getting a bad earth? Can you bench test it? I use a single jump lead from the -ve battery terminal onto the engine block being very careful not to foul any moving parts/belts. Is the battery flat? Do the dash needles dance when you turn ignition on? Maybe it needs replaced or is something draining it? Alternator not charging? Try starting it in Neutral, there might be more than one more than one problem. Try the Fault finding page http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/faultfinds.htm

Hi and thanks for the reply Highlander The battery is at 12.2v and it wont start in neutral or drive and i have checked all the advice on the fault finding page i have had it towed into the garage and they put it on the ramp and said that the starter needs replacing. Lucky for me a very helpful member on this web site has one and will get it me hear for Monday I thought at first that the starter might be on its way out but i have never known of one that doesn't even click when it goes faulty, so i was looking for more faults. I will let you know if it sorts it out as soon as i get it on Thanks for the help its much appreciated
