Further to my misfire problem it would appear that the nearside bank of cylinders is not firing at all, I have checked for spark, ok, I swapped plugs for other side but still the same, engine has no nasty rattles, please help.

1) Are the sparkplugs in the bank that are not fireing wet with fuel. 2) Have you done a compression test on that bank. 3) Normally if you have fuel and a good spark it points to a timing problem. 4) If the spark plugs are dry it points to a possible electricial problem with the injectors feeding that bank. Let me know how you get on I check the site at 18.00hrs today.......Kimi

hi, thanks for tips Kimi, it would seem to be timing problems as plugs are wet with fuel and there is a spark, do you know if there are seperate timing chains per bank and is it possible for one to slip or jump?

Predator, Oh dear. Have a look at http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/timingchain29.htm. The two banks are indeed timed by two chains and in one or two cases a chain has jumped a cog or two, leading to a lack of compression. This is what it sounds like - although one bank may still be able to fire the engine runs very badly if one of the chains slip. Yoiu'll need to source new chains and sprockets and be prepared for some bent valves, too. The full workshop manual for this is on http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/CosV6manual.htm It may be cheaper to source a secondhand engine that runs well rather rebuild the existing one, but it depends on what you find when you lift the cam covers off and check the chains.

Sorry I'm late getting back to you,I agree with Scorpio man & the bloke in the big hat ! .You have nothing to loose in removing the inlet manifold and cam cover on the sick bank, you will see the chain I will be surprised if it has snapped as it would be a bit noisy. With care you can check the cam tining marks to see if the chain has jumped a tooth or two.See timing chain manual on this site as mentioned by the man in the big hat .let us know how you get on , where are you based? ...
