Remote Central locking - But not Unlocking

Having a problem unlocking my car with the remote. Remote had a new battery 2 weeks ago and been working fine until the weekend, the car locks and double locks with the remote, but when i press the unlocking button i can hear the double locking unlock, but it then re-double locks itself. The only way to unlock the car is to use the key. Any Ideas? Matt

Sounds as though there is a door open somewhere or one of the sensors is showing a door open, Thats what happens if there is. Does it work OK with the Key?

Have a look at the remote and check that the lock button isn't stuck down. I had thius a while ago, it will unlock, but because it is in range and because the lock button is permanantly pressed down, it locks itself again straight away!!

Everything all works fine with the key, and none of the doors are or sensors show anything open. I stupidly locked the car whilst sitting inside and ended up setting the alarm off, had to open the window and quickly unlock the car from the outside with the key to turn it off. Baz, as for the remote, checked that none of the keys seem to be sticking, but i'll give it another go in a minute and see. Thanks, Matt

tried the remote after my last post yesterday and it all worked Went shopping at tesco, came back and it wouldn't unlock again. I've noticed that if i just lock the car and not double lock with the remote then the remote unlocks it all OK. Came to unlock it this morning and it unlocked as normal. Got to work and locked up, came out an hour later to get something and it wouldn't unlock unless with the key. Checked again that none of the buttons are sticking but no luck. Matt

Open the boot and locate the fuel cut off button (red Button) next to the boot catch. Verify the red button is pressed down FULLY. Mine was stuck between on and off and caused all kinds of problems with the central locking. I practically tore the whole dash out the car trying to find the problem. Just another idea for you to try Kind Regards Danny_R

Great Matt, glad you got it sorted. If Admin happen to read this, might I suggest we put a page up on the site as to the importance of the fuel cut-off button being fully pressed in! I know we don’t have many occasions where the button gives problem but in an instance where the button is between on and off, it can lead to all kinds of weird problems with the central locking/Dead locking. Just a suggestion Kind Regards Danny_R

It is in the offside rear light cluster 'cubby hole'. This may help http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/images/handbook116.gif. You still may need to get HRT for the remote!!!.

Danny_R's mention of the fuel cut-off is a point well made. They cause all sorts of problems. Way back when the Granada changed from the box to the jelly mould style, I had the first one in my town (on a C Reg). After 3 days it stopped dead. Back to Ford it was towed, where it remained for over a month. Trouble was the original driver's handbook didn't mention the cutout and the workshop manual was still fairly flimsy. After a couple of strongly worded letters to the Chairman of Ford Europe, one day I got mail from Germany enclosing a slightly grubby set of electrical diagrams of this new model. (they didn't know who my dealership was to send it to them.) Sure enough, there was the switch shown in the feed to the fuel pump. The techs at the dealer's had realised they were missing power to the pump, but the idea of an inertial cutout switch hadn't occured to them. Now all we had to do was find it. Logic takes you to the rear of the car and pretty soon, we exposed it to daylight. (You had to take the all trim right off in those days) The switch crept in because Ford USA had been sued for millions over Pintos catching fire after rear-enders. The edict was issued that this must be stopped. Hence the cutout switch. Ford Europe joined in.

| The wierd symptoms caused by a faulty FCO switch is on there already, Danny. I've added this advice to a remote control entry. Thanks

| KM, If you're sure that your remote buttons are making contact okay and aren't sticking then check to make sure the car battery is charging fully and is in good condition - this can cause modules to reset if the voltage is too low. If you get a tone when you switch the ignition on it sounds as if the module is giving a programming tone, which is a bit odd. Use the Instrument reset http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/instreset and get a system voltage reading before you start the car. If that's okay, try disconnecting the battery - with the ingition key off - for a few moments and reconnecting (you'll need the radio code.) Doing this should reset all the modules. Then follow the program remote instructions exactly and the tone should have gone.
