Tearing my hair out !!

Hi there
After stripping down and cleaning my remote fob for the umpteenth time it has now finally decided not to work anymore. Previously it needed re-programming daily ( i know !!). Well now when i follow the reprogramming i get the bong after the fourth turn but nothing when i press the fob. Checked the batteries etc,etc.
Is there anyone local to me who would be willing to pop over (or i pop over to them) just so that i can try their fob on my car before i can eliminate it (the fob that is! Mind you the way i'm feeling now maybe the car as well!!).
I don't hink it could be the alarm control module because i'm still getting the initial bong and the central locking and alarm are working - i know this as this morning the fob did lock me into the car (deadlocked!!).

Sorry i forgot to add i'm in birmingham.
I tried the fuel shut off switch ( i really was hoping this would be it) but to no success...
I can't help but think it may well be the remote not sending a signal out. Whilst checking the batteries i used the voltmeter across the button contacts and they seem okay. So the buttons are working but maybe not sending anything out ?
