lights flickering

Cool We just got the car on saturday, and my husband noticed when he went to work last night that as soon as he put the lights  on, they started to flicker, inside and out, all lights inc radio.
He also found that the a/c comes on automatically when the car is started up--and when he switched that off, the lights settled down after a bit. He is panicking like hell because if he cant get to work then we're in trouble ! lol. Any ideas please? Cry

Hi welcome,
More information i needed what spec i the car but for a starter check to see if there is a battery cover fitted if not the problem will probably be with the fuse box if this is so you will be advised on the best course of action

I wonder of alterntor drive belt may be slipping..aggrevated when air con is on.Is battery ok?
Air con will be on by default unless you switched it off while car is running then restart car within a certain time(it remembers settings when ignition is off..but can't renmember for how long).

From what it's said i tend to say it's the AC clutch wich has developed a fault, maybe the coil from inisde it's in short-circuit. (Could also be another problem but not shore. From what i remember the AC clutch coil is connected to a diode wich grounds the electric enegry when the EM field colapses, maybe the diode is at fault) .

Also chect that the belt is not sliping

OFF-Topic

Hey don't worry about the scorp it's their habit of geting on the nerves of it's NEW owner.....but after a while you get used to it. AND after all the small problems get fixed you will just enjoy the great "bull-frog, bug-eyed scorp"

When i bought the car i had a lot of small problems

Afer takeing the battery out it didn't want to start
NO AC
No ABS
No battery cover
Burnt fuses
No heated chairs
Worn disk barkes and pads
front bushes shot
stabilezr bar bushes shot
steering rods
and lots and lots of "small problem" but the list now only has a major left-over and that one it's the ABS wich i'll sort out someday. Now i enjoy a car that is out of it's time, with a lot of optionals and gadgets, a great car, which gives you pleasure only by driving it, the destinaton becomes un-important, it's the ride that get's you going

ON Topic

If the belt was changed maybe it's not tensioned enough, maybe the tensioner it's blocked, as for the "AC something" maybe it was the clutch....

Hey Ming,

Where are you based, I'm down by the Forth Bridges and after eight years of these machines I can sympathise with you on the problems. Got to say though that the joy of driving them far outweighs the problems.
