I have a problem with my alloy wheels. 16" - 12 spokes. The look quite bad. It seems that the crome finish is going off.. uncovering a red layer.. Has any of you got the same problem? What to do about it? I really like the wheel - so i do not wanna invest in something else..

A lot of the chrome alloy wheels do this, it is the finish peeling off. The only cure is to have them refurbished and then re-chromed.....or have another set fitted instead Baz

Do you how much it costs to get them "recromed" or just painted?

I sold a set of mercedes AMG 18" alloys on EBay a while ago and the guy who bought them paid about 30 gbp each to get them done and painted

Hi there, I have the same preblem with one of my wheels and your post prompted me to go off and try to find out how I could get it fixed. As soon as I mentioned the dark red colour under the chrome I was told that there was no chance of having them rechromed . Apparently the undercoat is so hard that it's almost impossible to get off. I suggested powder coating and again was advised not to do it because the high temperature of the process can cause the wheels to crack. The company I spoke to recon that there are a couple of things that they can do including making the wheels almost chrome but I'm not sure how much that might cost. I have a set of reasonable condition standard twelve spoke alloys which I might put on but I have to say that I like the chrome ones. HTH Thunderchild

I have tried to paint the spokes, with some "alloy spray paint"..but the paint goes off after some weeks driving..not a good result.. (I should have sand the surface a bit).. I also prefer the wheels in chrome condition - it goes very well to the rest of the car.

unfortunately no one around will/is able to re chrome these type wheels in the process that Ford used. I found a company who will re chrome them at £400 per wheel...proper chrome. The wheels are long discontinued from Ford and Interford have none. The only answer is to fit the silver version of the wheel when the chrome ones get unsightly. try http://www.lap-tab.co.uk/alloywheels.php hth simon

Nice website - I do like the "black chrome" finish. Since I am living Denmark - I cannot use this company, but there has to be something similary in DK I guess.. Thanks..
