Estate luggage area light

Hi, can anyone tell me where the switch is that illuminates the load area light on an estate?
I've a Scorpio 8V executive estate (base model?) and have three lights in the roof lining, - front, above rear passengers, and in the luggage area. They are all "three position switched" - constant on, off, and automatic on when doors open.
All work in the "automatic" mode except for the tailgate one which can be switched contant on, or off, but in the automatic position nothing happens when the tailgate is opened.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Clive.

Does the back one light when a front door is opened?
Do the others light when the tailgate is opened?
Sounds like a switch problem

The light on mine is NOT connected to the other door switches. It operates only when the tailgate is opened. There are no obvious contacts or switches on the door or the surround so that only leaves the tailgate lock. I had this problem once on a Volvo saloon and the switch was an integral part of the door lock. In that instance the cure was WD40. The tailgate lock is easy enough to access so I'd start there. Are the rubber gaiters all intact at the top of the door because of course the wiring is fed through those.

hi there

on my estate, the light only works when you unlock the tailgate door. opening a door only puts on the 'car' lights. does the indicator on the dash light up showing the tailgate is open?

Hi All, thanks for the replies.
To clarify things a bit,
The two individual "passenger area" lights come on when the doors are opened - I dont expect the luggage area light to come on.
The Luggage area light does not come on when the tailgate is opened - I DO  expect it to come on.
I have checked the tailgate lock and there is a  small blue "box" with wires coming out of it attached to the lock - it looks like it swivels. It clicks when you swivel it. I WD40'd this to try to get it swivelling freely - BUY it has NO effect on the luggage area light  Huh  Huh  Huh
Luggage area light only comes on when switched to constant "on".
Anyone else got any ideas?
Sorry to be a pain, but I've only had this Scorp a week and am working the (very few) bugs out of it.
Thanks, Clive.

If the light works when on 'constant' is it possible that the switch in the light unit itself may require a dose of WD?.

Thanks for all your helpful replies.
I've just had a brainwave (unusual for me!) I'm going to try to substitute the "constant" connector in the light unit itself with the "automatic" one. If the light then comes on with the tailgate up, then the light unit is to blame (signal being received).
If not, back to square one...
Watch this space......

Hi Simon, Thanks for that - I was waiting for someone to confirm that the blue box was the luggage area light microswitch. It is raining at the moment, so I will be investigating further when the weather co=operates.
Many thanks for all who took time to reply.

Hello I have just had this problem the blue switch on door catch has 2 functions 1 it turns on the light when tailgate opened 2 it operates the door open warning light on dash I had to replace mine as it was operating the warning light but not tailgate light you can gain access to switch only as it is only clipped in and can be levered out with small screw driver but to replace you have to remove trim to gain acess to connector Terry

Hi Terry, thanks for that - I feel between us all we are zeroing in on the problem!
For your info, the trim is already removed - previous owner had tied bailing twine to tailgate lock to open it from the inside ..A new key sorted that problem out.
It's still raining down here so I've no impetus to go out to work on the car at the moment......
