losing auto gear oil

I have a 96 ultima estate and I've noticed that over the last few weeks the front wheels are getting really grimy - far more than the rear wheels, which is odd. When I looked at it closely, the tyre walls, wheel trim and hubs are covered in a film of dirt and oil, as though oil has been spraying out somewhere. Coincidentally (or maybe not) I checked my gear oil level and found it very low. It had been perfect a year ago. So I'm losing gear oil and I suspect it may be connected with the oil on the front wheels. Has anyone had a similar problem? I checked the oil cooler pipes and rad but the pipes are so dirty and corroded it's hard to tell if there's a tiny leak. Maybe when they are under pressure, oil sprays out of a pin-hole leak. Any advice is welcome, and I'd also like to know how easy the pipes are to replace (assuming I can get hold of some new ones) if they are leaking. Cheers.

The Oil cooler pipes wher ethey are exposed before they go the cooler is the most likel;y palce for them to go. The proper pipes from Ford are about £40 if i remeber correctly but it is possible to fit braided hydraulic hose and just cut out the corroded part of the pipe. I does save an awful lot of crawling about under the car. Saying that it is quite and easy DIY job and not too much Transmission fluid is lost that way. http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/coolerpipes.htm
