Hi guys I have just bought an n reg scorpio 2.0 ultima which has been owned by family and friends for the last six years. I have checked the gearbox oil and found it to be a brown colour. I know the oil has not been changed in this period. Is this normal or am i facing the worst? Thanks to all for the site.

It is a light brown colour and does not seem to contain any bits. I dont think it smells burnt. Would it have gone this colour through age? I am planning to have the oil and filter changed soon but became worried when i found out the oil should be red.

That sounds like just OLD age , as long as it does NOT smell burnt then a change of oil and filter will do it good.

Thanks for the advice. I will invest in a oil and filter change as soon as the funds become available and move onto my next problem.
