Aftermarket reversing aid advice

Has anyone fitted one of those ultrasonic reversing aids that you can get on EBay?
You know the type - drill the bumper in 4 places, fit sensors & wire up.
I have an estate and it all seems OK in my head apart from the fact that you take a feed off the reversing lights - in the tailgate - to go to the magic box - in the loadspace "sides".
How difficult is routing a feed inside one of the rubber conduits that take the fitted cables from tailgate to body.
The readout/alarm should be OK to put on or above the rear view mirror top, fed off the interior light. (On some of the kits I've seen, there is a wireless connection to this from the magic box - that's the one I intend to get).

I have AND I know Craig has too, but both are saloons!

As long as you can get to the live feed to the reversing lights you should be OK.

I ran the wire for the readout in the passenger side trim, right up and over the windscreen to the mirror tucking the cable in the roof lining!

The pages Snoppy refers to give you some good ideas as well

yep i do as well, pretty much as others have said, and if it helps, the infra red sensors that go on the bumper,i drilled right through the second skin on the bumper, and ran the wires into the boot through the rubber grommet in the spare wheel well, then into the control unit which is fitted into the boot,2 wires from the control unit,1 earth, the other scotch locked into the reversing lights, and my display is fitted next to the high level brake light on the rear shelf, this way i can see it when looking over my shoulder as well as in the interior mirror as well.......

Thanks for the replies - you know, if you had a search facility on this forum I wouldn't be asking so many daft questions...    Wink
Craig, surely the readout is in reverse if you look in the mirror -  you'd be backing into things thinking you were pulling away from them!!!   Grin Grin Grin   Roll Eyes

Will read the suggested articles.
Thanks all!

quite right frank, but i hardly use my digital display as mine aso has a series of beeps, and the colour graduates from green (safe) to danger (red) for extra warning as well.....

CHJ. Its is simple to fit the four sensors in the rear bumper, route the cable trrough the grommet in the spare wheel well and I located the control box in the rear light light compartment on my estate, running the wire along the top of the trim to the mirror. The wire to connect to the reversing lights in the tailgate requires a bit of a fiddle with a piece of curtain wire but mine runs through the tailgate cable sleeve into the tailgate and connects to the the reversing lamp. I only had to remove the rubber sealing strip from the headlining by the tailgate to access the sleeve and the interior trim. The system is great, very accurate and came from TG Online.PM me if you want any more info.
