cooling fans on 2.3

the cooling fans have started kicking in when not needed. start up from cold (overnight) and they kick in. everything else seems fine, no coolant loss. are these fans controlled by a sensor in the radiator like the one's on my sierra. only reason i ask because on scorpio's you don't know what controls what (maf sensor for gearbox ). any help appreciated.

Hi Andy, someone had a similar problem on here recently - can't just find the post at the moment but the problem turned out to be a little bit of corrosion on the pins of the switch contacts. Worth a look

if it helps, when mine behaved in a similar fashion (full on,full speed all the time ),did turn out to be a pressure problem, when i enquired at ford, they told me the pressure swich was part of the receiver/drier and was not availiable seperately (however another member has told me it is ),anyway new receiver/drier along with the said pressure switch and mine now works brilliant........ HTH..

hi there start the engine with the a/c off. see if the fans come on then (can't remember if they do). still think it's the a/c, though.

hi scorpio man, done that mate and they kick in. slow for about 2/3 sec's then fast speed. as im about to start my nights (7 of them) just for a quick fix ive disconnected the fans for now as the car is running too cold. with the outside temps were getting now it should not be a problem. looks like im off to the main ford stealer for a new high pressure switch assembly.does the air con need to be re-gassed after fitting the pressure switch

andy.... how old is the car ?,might pay to buy the whole receiver/drier that comes with the swich fitted, about £70.00 all in,the bit in question has a life span of about 8 years,so if yours is coming up to that age,may i suggest you buy the lot,and yes,the system will have to be drained down professionally due to the gas...

hi all had same problem on my 24v.changed ect sensor, still the same.but temperature guage on dashboard was in red,so then desided to change temperature sender unit next to ect sensor.after changing this i noticed that both wires to the ect sensor had split and the copper was on display where this meets wiring loom across engine. so i just about manadged to seperate wires and patch up with insulation tape, then started car and all was fine. i think the ect sensor had a slight leek and therefore damadged two of the wires causing them to short.
