New slant on heater problem

Driving along, enjoying life, cold outside warm in the car. Suddenly smell of burning (electrical type smell). Heater now blowing cold air.
Matrix has been checked and is clear, hot in and hot out.
No error code on CC (shows 0 and 50 when scrolled down. Checked out all suggestions on forum from other queries.
Blower still works, AC still works but no heat. What could possibly have fried to prevent hot air blowing?
p.s. I don't think the front screen de-ice works, left on for ten minutes and only a very small area low down on the screen clears.
