Temp gauge always very low ( 95 Diesel w. Clim.

Temp gauge always very low. Anyway the gauge moves some millimeters (1-2mm) up. Sometimes -very rarely- it moves to the halv position and falls then soon back into the cold postion.

Even if the motor turns the tube from the thermostat housing to the radiator is not completely filled and feels slack.

Water pump failing?
My car is a 95 2.5 Diesel with climat control.

Thank you if you got any ideas

I had the same problem with the temp gauge on my 95 diesel, and it turned out to a switch on the side of the engine, on mine it caused the gauge to always read in the blue and also meant the cooling fans didn't cut in either, but due to me always having the aircon switched on the aircon fans meant the car never overheated in normal use. As soon as I changed the switch the temp gauge worked ok and the fans worked again. It may be worth checking to see if this is causing the temp gauge problem as a starter.

This could explain the temp gauge, but not the tube feeling slack. Are you sure it's not just an old tube and it is actually filling? I'm sure some of the knowledgeable chaps here may be able to assist further.

Hello Liverpaul,
where exactly should I look for this "switch" ? Does this switch have  a Ford part number, that would enable me to order one?

Does anyone know where the switch is because my car does exactly the same thing. i know where the coolant temperature sensor on the cylinger head is, tried cleaning the connectors to it but this didn't do anything. Bit worrying if the cooling fans don't come on as i've read the the VM engine's head gaskets tend to fail if the engine over heats too much.

thanks for the info, still can't find where the switch is from the picture. I can find the temperature sender on the cylinder head and the coolant level sensor on the bottom left of the expansion tank, is it one of these or another one elsewhere?

Thanks, Matt

its further down on the side of the engine  has two wires going to it,
on the 12v its on the side of the radiator... I am sure one of the TD guys will point you in the right direction.
