Check the earth grounding of the windshield, (look at it's down cornes with the bonet opened) , but i think the heated element insde is braking apart.

Cheers

if it is parts/strips not heating,i would suspect the elements breaking down, which basically means a new screen,if half of the screen appears not to be working, then fuses and relays come into the equation then...

You can tell that winter's here  Sad Sad with the growing number of heated windscreen posts - mine is banded too - most of Driver's side works but not a lot of the Passenger's.  I'm not sure that the heated mirrors are heating either Sad.  Out with the tester on Saturday and hoping that someone throws a pebble as the screen Smiley Smiley

What is the score with insurance on windscreens - do they have to replace it like for like or could you end up with a normal unheated one ?

Just spent £35  on new heated  door mirrors,  to have a quickly  cleared  windscreen on these frosty mornings  would be great  but  I  really can't justify the expense when the screen is otherwise  flawless.  Can't   be many scorps  around  that  have a  working  original  heated windscreen.

Can't this do the job?

It's a conductive paint, which is designed to fill cracks in (amongst other things) window heaters.

They're sold here in Norway for around £17 per bottle.

Okay, just thought the standard was putting the element on the window, inside the car, not inside the window. I think my old mk3 Granny had the heater element on the window. Haven't checked on my Scorp yet though.

First of all, the left and right hand sides of the windscreen are heated seperately. If you are getting a few strips on one side, then the element in the screen is not breaking down, and it is not a fuse or relay problem. If a fuse or relay were faulty, then you would have nothing at all, as the electrical circuit would not be completed. If the screen element was breaking down, the same would apply. Non completion of an electrical circuit = nothing.

The problem lies with an insufficient current, to power the circuit fully, therefore you probably have a dirty, or corroded connection somewhere.

A good starting place is under the bonnet at the bottom corner of the drivers side of the screen. There are two wires under the edge of the screen with spade connectors. Undo one connection, and check the voltage across it. reconnect it, then do the same test on the other one.
