Is it possible to temporarily bypass the wiring to allow an auto stuck in Drive with a broken selector to be started just to get it moved??

Not safe i know but would be helpful if it could be done.

Never tried it but the way I understand it is
the transmission position sensor sends a signal to pin 64 on the EEC & also there is a contact on the selector.
I think if you fool the selector contact it will start but I am not sure.
Worth a try as it is easy to get to.
Do you know where I mean?

You could  try removing or  bypassing  Relay 11 ,  drivers side  fusebox  ( yellow ).

Removing the relay will prevent starting in any selector position. and its a b****r to get at Smiley

The multiplug under the selector Dave?
or the sensor on the box?
I see two wires for Park on the selector multiplug on the site but none for Neutral suggesting it gets a signal for one or both from somewhere else too (the box?)
will give it a try tomorrow Smiley

Cheers all  Grin

Yeah you got it, the switch is at the front, right where the P is just under the plastic cover, have a play with that Grin
On a MK3 that's all you have to do but the Scorpio is a bit more complex, so not 100%

Ok tried it today, with the selector linkage disconnected then moving the selector in and out different gear settings makes no difference to whether the car starts or not (with the multiplug connected), only Park has an actual wiring connection.
Moving the link arm on the box does, so the start inhibitor must take its signal from the actual gearbox itself

Hope thats useful to someone else Smiley

Yeah just had a look for you.
You need to earth pin 64 on the ECU.

The feed to that does indeed come from the position sensor on the gearbox, goes through the engine loom, into the main loom & then pin 64 on the ECU.
Yellow/black.
