Exhaust gases inside car?

Hi, I'm a little worried that some exhaust gas is getting inside the car; is that possible? I'm getting that sort of smell especially when stationary. Is there a gadget of some kind I can keep in the car to tell me if there is exhaust gas (I presume it's carbon monoxide) present? Also does anyone know what effect it would have on me, bearing in mind I'm in the car, on and off, for around 6-8 hours a day. Thanks Mike

I'd get it checked in garage asap rather than get a CO meter. I dont think there is any immediate danger but exhaust fumes can make you drowsy and are potentially lethal.

with out any audable signs of an exhaust problem, perhaps you are confusing it with a smelly heater matrix.

Sometimes when driving - I have the same experience. When stopping for red lights - the car tends to smell of exhaust gasses..( It is only when standing still) Owner of 12V

Consider also the possibility of a defective tailgate or boot seal Regards KL
