Locked out!

Not something I've seen on here but one of the family Scorps has pulled a blinder with this one. Basically the car was locked with the key fob and left whilst on a shopping trip. On return the car refused to unlock with the fob, not that strange - use the key. The car also refuses to unlock with either door lock or the boot open (the key appears unworn according to the local ford main agent who took an interest when approached). The key will turn the 1/4 turn clockwise to lock the car nut won't turn anticlockwise on any lock, hence unlock. The car is appears to be 'alive' as the alarm LED is flashing and the clock correct (no lights have been left on and the battery is realtively new), but the b****r is locked solid. It has been towed home and is now sat on the path refusing to open. So a long standing car enthusiast, Ford Main agent and GreenFlag have all been baffled to press. Answers on a postcard please....... Stu

Have you spare keys? try one if you have just in case it is slightly worn, mine looked ok too but wouldnt unlock. Seen this before, when the remote is used all the time the locks seize up through not being used. I just kept trying the lock with some WD40 on the key and in the keyhole, it opened after about 20 mins. I posted this before a while ago but use the locks now and again because when the remote does fail thats the time you find out they dont work

| I'm no expert (so don't take my word for it), but it sounds to me like you're using a wrong set of keys (and perhaps fob), but that also sounds unlikely. Pretty sure I read somewhere on the forum that ALL scorpio-keys will lock ANY scorpio, but only the correct one will unlock.

I've had another go at the car today, having had a strange week where we got but didn't know how. I got brave (or stupid?) and locked the car again today and were back to square one. This time the bonnet was up and we've tried pulling related fuses/relays (although nothing is shown as central locking - strange?) with little success. What did it though was the 'red' key in the door - straight in. Any suggestions? Stu.

Yeah sounds like the key has not been used much & the locks are stiff. Try WD40 as said then I usally spray motorcycle chain wax into them once they are O.K to keep them that way

The keys don't appear worn - the spare bunch including the red one have never been used and they don't work either............ The lock turned with the red key with no resistance so don't beleive it to be a lucrication problem. Thanks Stu.

As another seems to have the same problem and to try and assist any future persons looking for the answer to this problem here is where we ended up. The Red key would indeed open the car with no problem. The fob when reprogramed would operate the locking/unlocking and the normal key would start the car. There was a debate about some keys being more worn than others - subjective rather than objective I feel. The end solution - to buy a complete lock set (4 barrels & 3 keys inc a new red key approx £100+fitting) replace all and reprogram the car through the WDS to the new red key. All done at a local main agent, Bonds of Pocklington (01759 303225). A bit drawn out but as good as new now. I leave you to your own conclusions. Stu.
