non starter (just before x-mastrip!!)

Hi! My Scorpio (2,0 DOHC 8v, manual) -96 refuses to start. It's completely dead, the starter does not turn. I've checked the faultfindingpage and read tons of earlier posts. All fuses are ok.. So, I've suspected the battery to be bad, since I've seen the 'dancing needles' a couple of times the last weeks. When measuring on the battery with a multimeter I got around 13V, but going down to 5V when turning the key, which I know is far to low (and explains the dancing needles). But the strange thing is that the car won't start when using another car's battery (connected with cables). If the battery was flat, that should work? (Am I right here??). So I don't know if I should run and buy a new battery or not (waste of money if it isn't necessary, and the battery is only approx 1,5 year old). So I'm suspecting bad earth connections or voltagedrop between the battery and the starter (I'm going to try to check these tomorrow..)

hi there how long did you have it charging for? if it can get to 5 volts, then that's miles too low! i'd go for a new battery and start again.

Do I know how you feel Just before xmas Mine would not turn over at all this week but the battery was fine, had it looked at by the RAC, had to go out and buy a new starting motor £126.00 with £30 to come back when I return the old unit. Another case of SCORPIOSSIS Good look with getting back on the road.

Hello! Check all the wires,l especially the ground leading from battery to the body and starter motor if they are hot! Personnally I think you starter has died! If the voltage drops from 13V to 5V it's usually starter motor seizing! I had the same prob with my older Granada. best regards, Serguey
