Battery looses its charge.

Hi, The battery on my Scorp seems to loose its charge very quickly. The car is not on the road at present but I like to start it up every week or so. After being left with a fully charged battery it is usualy flat after only a few days. The battery was new about 6 mounths ago. My question is do Scorpios have a reputation of using up a more charge than the average motor when locked up and not used? If so maybe I will disconnect the battery untill I start using the car. Cheers Mike

first place to start looking i reckon is this,1. do you have the appropiate covers for the battery.2.make sure the glove box light and the boot light are not staying on (2 common faults).......

Also try charging the battery with a charger. Make sure all the conections on the battery are tight and not loose.
Remeber cold nights and mornings will flatten your battery much quicker. Also unscrew the tops off the battery and check the levels for de ionised water dropage. If its a sealed battery then ignor the later.
Just a thought....

I still have a problem with the battery going flat. I have checked the boot light, it goes out when the boot is shut and the glove box light does not work ( I hope it just need changing) The battery acid levels are fine. I charged it up xmas eve and this morning it was flat again  Cry

Just thought I would ask again for any Ideas before I get the battery checked out.

Now I am going to try and find out how to change the glove box bulb, looks a right pain in the rear end to do!

Could be a drain in the alternator, could you try disconnecting the alternator for a couple of days then test the battery? This happened to a neighbours car and a re-con alternator sorted it out, he tried loads of stuff first....

Worth a go maybe  Wink

Mickey, To change the glove box bulb all you have to do is slide a thin blade under the switch, where it is fitted into the top of the glove box, apply a gentle pressure and twist the blade at the same time. The switch will come away complete with bulb which is then easily changed.

Thanks Simmo, I have sorted it now. All I need is the battery back! I have taken it to the shop that sold it to me just to get checked. Hope to get it back on Saturday.
