Engine cuts off, gear changes

Hi, I am new in this Forum. Could anyone may help me out of the following problem? I have a Scorpio 95 2 L. When I drove for 150 km on the highway, the car had lost performance in intervals, so i went to a pit stop. there I checked the Automatic oil. When I wanted to go on, the car didn`t start up any more. Previous to this event, the gearbox had a Problem with keeping the 4th shift. Could that be because of the AFM, concerned in previous topics? I am from Austria, sorry for my bad english- The failure finding programme told me 1761- The mechanics told me to change the fuel filter, so did I. but 100miles later the same problem.. what shall I do?

Solenoid fault, might just need a new one fitted. MAF clean might help? http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cleanmaf.htm

In case if- how, especially where is the solenoid to change at? I cleaned the MAF yesterday and took it for a ride, i think the gear problem is solved now. Thanks to the forum! Yes, the MAF was dirty, my Scorp has about 100 000 km. The front wire was really brown, and the muck was hard to get off, even with a cotton. But finally I matched it. but I am not quite sure about the engine- for that i need a 150 miles trip- So I am waiting for Christmas to go on that ride home.
