Heated screen and buttons

Hello all, Just a few questions from a newish scorpio owner.

Does anyone know if the emblems or buttons for the heated screens are supposd to light up as its a bit of a nightmare at night to know which button is which? (although in fairness in time I will probably know, just annoying!) Undecided

Any ideas on why the passenger side of the heated front screen works but not the drivers? There is a chip in the drivers but I thought that would only knock out a few elements and not the whole side. Undecided

Thanks for an excellent site, don't know how running a scorpio would be possible without this.

There are bulbs in both heated screen switches to illuminate the icons which should come on with the dash lights but they often blow, they can be replaced by carefully opening the switches but they will need soldering.

The on/off buttons should have a central yellow bulb which illuminates when on

Try some switches out of a scrapper as an easy fix  Grin

The windscreen has the "usual" Scorpio problem of broken elements by the sound of it, only fix is a new screen or just live with it like most of us do  Grin

Usually the passenger side works perfectly and the drivers side hasjust a few working Cheesy

I wonder if its the same on LHD cars??  Grin

Any Euro/LHD guys than can let us know??

Thanks for the replys, it would seem I've got some bulbs gone. Might just get a can of de-icer then, think that would be cheaper than a new screen! Thanks for your help. Wink

regarding the windscreen, have you checked the fuses and the relays ?(each side has a seperate power supply),also check the connections on the side of the screen as well (you will see what i mean when you look under the bonnet)...

Hi Craig, Can you expand on this please?
I, too have a perfect clearing passenger side and a "bitty" drivers side - some elements appear to work, others dont, or are "sluggish".
No apparent damage to windscreen re. chips etc.

If there is a way of checking/remaking the connections to individual elements, I would appreciate being informed.
Many thanks, Clive.

A bit off topic, but relevant because of the LHD/RHD discussion.......
Did you hear the one about the French Siamese twins answering questions at the pasport checkpoint at Dover?
Passport Official: Good morning gents, state your reason for travelling to the UK? is it holidays?

Siamese twin: Non! your beaches are pathetic and your climate stinks. We are not here on holidays!

Passport official: Well, business then?

Siamese twin: Mon dieu, non! we are both chefs in our country and would not cook your bland rubbish food if you paid us double!

Passport Official: (exasperated) Well, WHY do you come here then?

Siamese twin: (pointing) It's my brother here, he wants to learn to drive!

My front screen  heater  is  dud,   I've checked  the relays  and power is getting to them  and they activate when the  dash  switch (  which is working too )  is used. Is there  a way  of  checking  the   windscreen  element  with a multi -tester ?

Are  the thick black wires at the bottom of  each side of the  screen  the + feeder  or   the  - ground ?
