2.9 12v engine wiring loom

Continuing the saga of mystery uneven running, break downs and ford not being able to find anything wrong with it. Sat halfway up the entrance ramp to shopping centre ,slows and over and out. AA could not start ,then starts and stops ....I give up. Tow to ford dealership ,fit new distributor runs but then stops . Electrical they say ..evidently V6 loom across top of engine = water and heat ,when cut open,wiring hard and brittle so that was the stop start then .They reckon £1200 approx so I said I will tow her home. Anyone any ideas on a engine loom and cost ? .Ford man said he thought they would have to have one made up special, although he said "not hard to fit" Cars perfect, seems a shame to break ,any advice out there . kim
