Hi Im new to the forum, the problem i have is that i have a cosworth ultima, which has been parked on the drive for the past 2 -3 months and started regularly with no problems, but on boxing day i found some oil / fluid which seems to be comming from around the end of the engin where the gearbox meets, kind of hard to tell as the light was very bad, could there be a gasket leak, and if so is it a job I can do myself?. looking forward to any coments. thank you. scorpion59

Could be any gasket in that area but the ones that leak on me are the rocker gaskets which let oil run down where you said & also the oil returns from the heads can leak & spray oil around that area.

as the fluid is a reddish colour, yes it is either the gearbox fluid,or could also be the power steering fluid, have you noticed a drop on any of these levels ?

Hello. Had the same problem a little while ago-took a while to discover one of the pipes from the bottom of the power steering reservoir needed tightening so the oil was running down onto the shield underneath the engine and then onto road. Hope this is of some help.

Thank you Craig, if it is one or both of these things , is it something I could do myself, or a job for the local mechanic. thank you. scorpion59.

hi have had this happen to two ford autos in the past both times turned out to be the front oil seal in the gear box allowing oil to pump out into the bell housing, had them both fixed by transmission guy.
