Engine cut out, AA man called out

Second day using the Scorp yesterday and it cut out Embarassed

I was driving along at 50mph ( 50 mph speed limit) and the engine just died. I pulled over and after a few goes she fired up but then died again after a few seconds. I was gutted !  left it a couple of mins then tried again and she started and seemed fine, reved up ok so I put it in drive and of we went. After about 15 miles it happed again, luckly outside a filling station so was able to pull over and have a look under the bonnet. Couldn't see anything wrong. Tried to start her again but it would not. It felt to me like a fuel cut.
It was getting dark and needed to get home so phoned up the AA. Guy came out and had a look. After a few turns of the key it fired up. He put an orange HT tester in one of the plugs to see if when if cut the spark stopped or stayed on. Guess what? It didn't stop.
Drove home with him following for a few miles. He seemed to think that it may be a bad connection on the fuel cut out switch. I will check this later this week but has anyone got any other ideas? Mike.

Really sorry to hear that mate.

The fuel cut off switch in the boot is known to cause problems, worth a look at the wiring to and from it for sure.

Check the fuel pump relay (the big green one) in the fuse box near the battery, this may be getting too hot and so cutting out.

Does it start ok when cold? Can you gear the fuel pump "buzz" for a second or so when you first turn the ignition on?

Hope this helps  Undecided

Highlander, I will have a good look at the wiring and connectors. I don't know about getting a obd scan. Guess I need to do some obd reading. My cars a 1996 v6 12v auto. Will this have obd?
Thanks Mike.

You need a Star code reader (sometimes called OBD I) for the 2.9 12v Mike and unless I am very much mistaken I saw one of these fairly cheaply in Halfords  Cheesy

hi mate i found that the loom from the multiplug next to the exaust had been overheate and was breaking down , i could drive for about 30 miles and then the engine would die only to restart after cooling down , upon stripping the loom down i found that the insulation was breaking down and shorting out, the loom is not aviable so the only cure is to cut out the damaged bits and replace hope this helps if you need any help contact me regards rick
