auto box problem 2.9 12v

Hello and a happier new year to all. I was recently involved in an altercation with a Rover ie, tried to mate with it! .In the prang, a pipe was fractured which allowed the gearbox oil to escape but the repairs are now done and I'm back on the road. The car runs ok but the gear selecter lever doesn't engage in the "park" position properly so as soon as I open the door I get the audible beep. I hope nothing too expensive has "snapped"! Any suggestions? Thankyou. Huh

Sounds   as   though  your  garage  mechanics   ( or the prang )    have   slightly  shifted  or  bent   the  gearbox  selector   rod.   I'm  fairly  sure   it has  a  threaded   adjuster on   it.   Unfortunately   you'll  need  a   ramp   or  hoist   to get   at  it.

Hello Mr F. My mechanic friend readjusted the rod underneath car and solved the problem. But tonight, the lever clicked into "park" ok, but the audible beep still went 'til I shut the door. Blast. Any more thoughts? Thanks.   Trev.

Wasn't there a post about this recently and the cause was low level of fuel thus setting off a warning?.

As far as I know, the beep is a warning that the shift has not been put in "park"  Trev.

I found that slightly unscrewing the switch sorts this out Grin........ Oh hang on.... Huh
Seriously though, mine has always done this. I have even had the switch out of the door to see if there was a fault. The funny thing was, there is only ONE wire leading in, no positive or negative, just one in-descript wire. Anybody have a clue??

Maybe the neg (ground) is connecting directly to the chassis?

My Scorpio  also  beeps  when  you  exit the car  with either the  sidelights or headlights on.     So maybe it's  a  lighting circuit thing.
