Stuck in Park!

Gents, having got the Scorp started after its hibernation the lever is now stuck in Park. It moves a bit but not far enough to get reverse. I am thinking that the selector arm or whatever it is needs some serious WD40 from underneath due to the damp conditions since it has been stood. I don't want to force it as it feels like it may break, it is the same with the engine running or not. Fluid is up to max mark as it stands but obviously cannot cycle through gears. Gearbox was working A1 before its lay up and had the fluid and filter changed about 3000 miles ago. HELP (again) Am desperate to get the beast for an MOT and go for a serious run! Ta very muchly

Dave/Andrew. If you go the the Fault finding page there is a link under Transmission problems to the selector linkage which comes up as a PDF file. I think this is what you are looking for.

Yep Dave thats what happened to one of mine, was sitting for a while and broke when trying to change gear, theres a pivot arm on the side of the box which seizes up, its only a very light alloy i think, its on the passenger side of the box above the exhaust, you should be able to get it from underneath

Brilliant - thanks! Ran it again today and the engine sounds absolutely fine which is a relief! Had a look that pdf file that Simmo points to above and think I can find it, will go crawl underneath asap with a large can of WD40 - unless anyone can suggest something that may work better? Thanks again

Right well the large can of WD40 was replaced with an even bigger can of penetrating spray. Have doused everything that I can see under there but concentrated on the pivot (selector level I think it is) that goes into the side of the 'box. Still didn't want to move so have sprayed it some more and will leave it overnight to see if it works What is the best course of action here guys?

'Ello 'ello 'ello, just been out to it now and the lever will, albeit very grudgingly, select gears!! Going to go over it again with the oil as it is obviously doing its thing then try moving it (the car) later on!! Cheers for the advice
