cold start problem 2.9 12v

Hello all.Help needed with this one. Had a front end prang a few weeks ago -new bonnet ,bumper, lights and lost the oil from gearbox due to fractured cooler pipe. The car is now mended but since i've had it back, I have to let the engine warm up before I put it in gear or else the engine stops. Once I'm off, it runs very well. I wondered if anything might have been affected in the crash. Thanks. Trev.

Check the IACV that is the usual cause of the stall when cold.. May need replacing or just cleaning.

I have the same engine and it is very perticular to plugs and gaps. They seem to last little more than 6-7k and the car starts to become hard to start and get away as you describe. Also starts better with less gap than the book (0.030") No hint of this becoming a problem until Christmas it stood for a day and was hell to start. A new set of plugs and away it went! Regards, Stu.

My 2,9 12V also has trouble starting from cold. I have to rev the engine or else it stops. The idle is very poor and unstable, but after 3-4 minutes giving it some thrust.. it is ok.. I changed the spark plugs 2 months ago..and I also cleaned the IACV.. When hot - the idle is fine..

Thanks for the input guys. Have cleaned the iacv as best I could by squirting some degreasing stuff inside and letting it dry,put it back and have same prob. Will try the plug thing next. Any reccomendations as to which type is best? Many thanks. Trev.

I got the plugs from a factors for less than £2/each, nothing special. Just starts and runs from (very from last week!) cold without problem, with less gap as above.

Hello again. Whipped the iacv off today and had our works sparky check it out. All was ok. Then, I asked my mate who I sold my old Granada to, If he would come to my house so that I could try his iacv on mine. This we did and Hey Presto! ---same symptoms. So have now booked in to a local tuning specialist for next Wednesday. Will let you know how it pans out. Trev.
