Alarm Woes

Hi

Bit of a strange problem with my alarm:

I only have one fob which I keep myself - My father keeps the other black key for himself in case he needs to move my car or whatever. However, over recent weeks or possibly months, when my father unlocks the car with his key and then starts the engine, the alarm sounds. I checked last night and also happens if I unlock with my key instead of using my fob.
Now, when I park the car up at night in the drive, I deliberately lock the car (double-lock) with the key only as I believe this does not switch the alarm on. This set-up worked fine since I got the car but recently the alarm has been going off when starting the car when unlocking with the key rather than the fob. Doesn't happen all the time but it is a pain as I may have to get another (expensive) fob for my father.

ANy ideas? Or is this normal? I think my car is having a mid-life crisis.

Hi,

for a start locking the car with the key, as far as I know, DOES arm the alarm. Whether you lock normally or double lock doesn't matter, the alarm will still activate.

Only thing I can think of is the module that goes round the door lock inside the door may need looking at or replacing. Think this is to do with the alarm/central locking. Its the 5th picture down on this page, that big white thing with the plug at the bottom:

Someone else will probably have a better idea though  Grin

hi there

d/locking using the remote will arm the alarm. sounds like the switch built into the lock is failing a bit (lack of use Undecided).

use a bit of wd40 or 3 in 1 oil (better for locks) and use the key a bit more. Wink

I'll try a bit of WD40 first and see how that goes but I do actually use the key regularly as I tend to lock it with the key and unlock with the fob. My father locks and unlocks with the key. Have also tried the key in the passenger lock and it's fine.

I'll try the oil thing first anyway - seems like the simplest thing to give a go.

I've just thought of a possible solution: If I am out and about (without my car) and my Dad wants to move my car, he can ring my mobile from his mobile as he stands next to my car. I would then hit the unlock on my fob (no matter where I am) and the car will unlock.

Trust me, I've done some testing and it really does work!!!
