Battery and starter motor electrical gremlins

Hi, I have a 1995 2L (16v) Ultima estate auto with LPG. Two weeks ago the car failed to start-slight turn of the starter motor but on the second or third attempt, just a click. First thought-battery. Two hour fast charge and all working fine again. Monday this week, sat ticking over and speedo etc went off and ODO LCD's went blank. Strange. Got home turned engine off and tried to start it again only to have the same slight start from the starter and then a click after a few goes. Battery suspected, but new one tried with no result. Suspected starter motor so took motor off (no mean feat!) and fitted replacement. No difference. Checked this site and then began checking fuses etc. Fuse 16 in main box had blown-replaced and engine fired into life. BUT, I have no headlights at all (tail lights fine) and no indicators all round. I suspect this may be water ingress or a loom problem (mice even). I see that looking UNDER the central fuse box is a suggestion. Can anyone tell me how to remove the central fuse box if so? Any other suggestions would be gratefully received. Best, Allan

Hi Allan, welcome to the site First thing to check is the large electrical plug that goes to the fuse box on the drivers side. It may look like it is properly seated but there are 2 plastic lugs that need to be correctly located before the plug can be properly pushed down and clipped in. If these are not "home" then some things will work but not others, usually the lights. Check that first and see how you go. Cheers

Have a look at the underside of that fuse box from inside the car. The wires that connect to the underside can come away. You can access this from the drivers footwell!
