Water squirting from overflow ???

Hi all, I have a 2.3 1998 Saloon. I changed the engine in it with the help of a friend about 6 months ago as the Head Gasket went in my old one. This engine has only done about 18k but since I replaced it I have a prob where if I rev hard some water will squirt from the overflow of my cooling system and if I stop and then turn the engine off a lot more will pour out. I have no oil in the water or water in the oil, it never overheats and when the water is squirting the pipes are not rock hard at all which makes me think not Head problems again. Could it be a prob with the rad still being partially blocked from the previous engine or some thingy up I made when fitting this engine. I do have a slight misfire as I need some exhaust gasket putting on the top of the cat but dont see how that could be related. Also does anyone know where you can get cables to hook up to my PC. Got the software but not the cable. Thanks for reading and any advice. Matt

Hi Matt, When you have been for a run and you get this water loss, how much is left in the coolant reservoir afterwards? I guess you will have checked the obvious - rad cap and if it is seating properly and sealing the system? Geoff

The actual reservoir will somtimes be half empty sometimes completely. You know what Geoff.... I just looked at the reservoir black cap and guess what !!!! The rubber O - Ring is missing. dunno when this happened. So I guess this is effecting the system pressure. That leads me to the question of is it this causing the water to squirt out ? Why Bit of a noob I am afraid.

Well if the seal is the answer is probably yes. Any how that would probably be the very cheapes fix if a new one sorts it. Good luck

Thanks Geoff, Such a small thing WAS the problem. £11 (wot a rip) from ford for a new expansion tank cap and the problem was solved. Guess because the O Ring was completely missing and not just cracked I didnt even notice. Shame you cant just buy the O Ring tho... had to get the cap aswell... Cheap fix tho in the long run . Thanks again.
