First good run problem

Have finally managed to take my new car on its first decent run of 30 miles + to pick up my son and have noticed a few things,

1. The Speedometer doesent work( But the odometer does and the auto box seems to be changing gear correctly).

2 The Cruise control doesent work, this I assume is tied into the speedo problem

3. The car wont start when its properly warm, ie after a good run, its fine round town but then I guess it never really gets properly warm

4 Its the nicest car ive ever driven

Help please, Ive had a full service done

Good to hear you like you car mate!

I'm on a leaning curv myself with these cars but did run a Granada Scorp a few years ago. I had the same problem with the speedo and non working C/C on that car. Turned out to be a worn out spedo sensor on the gear box, it was an auto. Changed this ( wasent a lot of money ) and it worked fine, speedo and C/C. I think it maybe the same set up on the 95 Scorps. Someone will say if I'm wrong. Hope you get it sorted.
Non starting problem, well I've got problems like that at the moment allthough its be ok for the last couple of weeks, someone should have some sugestions for you.

Thanks for your reply mate, ill order a new sender unit and hopefully this will cure the problem, as to the warm starting problem I will wait and see, the car started up ok once it had been left for a while (half hour)

PS, My lad calls the heated seats the "Ass Toaster"

Have you checked the cable from the throttle linkage to the Cruise control motor which is situated just alongside the offside headlight unit. The cable can become detached from the throttle linkage as it is only held on by a plastic 'lug'.

hi there

run through the dash diagnostics first before buying anything. press the button until you see SPEED. try moving the car and see if you are getting a reading.

Hot start problems could be the same as this http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/fuelreg.htm
Worth having an OBD scan if you can first though

Have fixed the speedo problem, Did the trip meter reset diagnostic and saw that input was ok, then noticed that needle was moving but was wrong side of the stop! Retaining screws on instrument cover badly rounded so managed to fix problem by drilling tiny hole in cover and flicking the Speedo needle back over the stop with a pin. Speedo now ok, bit of a phillistine solution but effective

PS Ill follow simmo's suggestion as to how to fix my cruise control as my next job

Just Ran the car six miles or so down the bypass and back, Parked up and  left for 10 mins, car restarted fine, think my problem is when you try to restart the car immediatley after a good run

Will keep trying
