Sun Roof Seal

My sun roof seal is coming away at the join (middle of the back). I am told that you can get new seals? though they could not get me a price. What concerns me is that it looks as though the mounts on the glass are corroded (I haven't probed too deeply as I didn't want a leaking sun roof). I wondered if anyone has had a similar problem and experience of solving it. It's fine at the moment as long as it's closed. It is a 2.3 R plate 160K facelift sallon ultima. As an aside did Ford do something with the later models to make them rust more, no rust problems on my 1995 model (with a dead loom at the moment)

If you're keeping the R-plater and maybe not the 95, my advice would be to swap the roof assemblies over.

Mind you, if the frame underneath the seal is not too bad, you may be able to rub down the rust and treat it.

The later ones do seem to rust for some reason. Fairly common problem I'm afraid.

Apparently the sunroof panel is better quality on the previous Granada and the glass panel can be swapped over easily.

My own seal did this, it didn't leak but was becoming difficult to open and close. With blind optimism (and a hint of carelessness) I pulled off the seal where it was raised and sanded down/de-rusted/painted the rusty area. Its been fine since  Cheesy

Yes, my  sunroof has  the same  problem,  it's  never leaked and after  a little surgery  on the rubber seal  with  a  sharp  knife  and  some  anti-rust  fluid  it   opens and closes without incident.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll probably have a look at it later in the year when there is less chance of rain (my garage is too small). I am hoping to repair the engine loom on the 95 model in the summer as that's all that's wrong with it (any experience of doing this would be of interest, especially what cable to use and where to get it?). The Ebay auction seems to be for the old Granada are the sun roofs identical? I'll see if my local garage can oblige me with nos.

Apparently so, but the earlier sunroof is made from longer lasting materials so does not seem to suffer from rust.

Look at this thread particularly the post by Save the Night. http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Problems;action= display;num=1124965036;start=7#7. which deals with re-wiring the engine loom. If you want more go to the top of the page, click on search, insert Maplins, and a whole host of links will come up about wiring looms!!.

Replaced my whole sunroof assy courtesy of Highlander.

they are the same in all the grannys and sierras apparently.  easy job to replace.

If the rear seal gets jammed tho, it will strip the teeth on the sunroof motor.  Know this from experience.

I think you'll find that the print pattern on it (the tiny black dots) are a different layout, but they're the same size I believe.
Others have done the swap from a Mk3 Granny to a Scorpio before.
