Does it not suggest that the cable may have become detached from the pedal?. If the Cruise control works that relies upon a separate cable coming from the motor at the front of the car. If you go to the top of this page, click on search and insert 'Throttle' that should bring up some links which may help you.

or the cable has snapped somewhere between the pedal and the throttle valve?

Hi, Thanks for the replies , seemed to have found the problem in the traction control unit - ive been up in Blackpool for the last week and the car has been parked on the sea front for a good few days and it was extreamly cold, some how the traction control was coming on while the car was stationary ( all cables ok ) thus no reponse from the throttle pedal. Ive taken it apart and cleaned plus a drop oil where possible and the problem has gone away - But!! the car now response's so sharply it makes me think that the unit has not been working as good as it should have for some while, this could be something of a scheduled maintainance requirement I will see how it goe's.
