Help in the Essex

Hello,

As I explain previously I just entered the wonderful world of Scorpio owner. This very well documented Web site help me make the decision.

First of all, I apologise for my poor English (I am French).

I have some problem : non working fuel gauge and Rear wiper.
I would like to know if there is anyone who can help me sorting out these problems and have a look to my car and most important show me how can I do it myself.
I live near Basildon in the Essex.

Regards
Tipierre

Wish my French was as good as your English  Smiley

Does your rear wiper work at all? Or is it completely lifeless?

What does your fuel gauge do? Is it stuck at halfway, or full etc?

Cheers  Smiley

The rear wiper doesn't work at all. Nothing happen when I press the button even the washer.
For the fuel gauge, the pointer stay at 0 and the Trip Computer display only '----'.

Hmmm well as it is an estate the first thing I would check is that any wiring has not chafed (rubbed through) around the hinge area. Opening and closing the boot could, after a few years, rub through any wiring. I am not sure if the wiper is wired this way but it is worth a look.

The fuel gauge sounds to me like a faulty sender unit as neither the dash nor trip meter is working.

Sorry I can't be of more help!  Undecided

The wiring does come through a rubber sleeve in the top of the tailgate. Have you checked to see if a fuse has blown. Look here http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/images/central_fusebox.gif. Fuse number 7 and relay number 1 are the ones to check. Have you got power to the wiper motor. To get to it you need to remove the trim from the tailgate which is very simple.

I will check the wiper fuse and relay...
For the fuel sensor, the diagnostics tell me it is a Short Circuit. How can it be possible ?

Unless I am mistaken you should be able to check the connections to the fuel tank sender under the rear seat. I wonder if the wires are just not making a good connection? Worth a look  Smiley

Is rear wiper fuse the same as front ? Because my fornt wiper working fine, that mean no issue from it.
I am struggling to find wiring of rear part of the car to check how is has been done.

The link I posted says that fuse 7 controls the wiper motors and the washers. Relay 1 is for the rear wiper so that would be the one to look at . If you take the panel off the tailgate you should be able to check the wiring to the motor. The wires all come in through a rubber sleeve in the top near the right hand hinge.

Without any reason, my fuel gauge did work for 1 hour yesterday and 1/4 this morning and went down again.
I found that rear window heating is not working as well I needed it this morning.

Right, well what I posted about checking the connections to the tank sender unit makes even more sense.

If your heated rear window isn't working as well then it must be to do with the connections at the rear of the car.

Check the wiring near the right hand hinge of the tailgate and you may also have to remove the tailgate trim panel to check connections there as Simmo suggested.

Fuse number 20 and relay number 5 are those covering the heated rear window.
