It could help if you have told us what engine you have, is it an auto or manual gearbox.

Cleaning the MAF could increase mpg

You'd   expect   the  town   reading to  be substantially  lower than  the  constant  speed    M/way   figure ?

38 mpg  sounds about right to me .

Your doing very well...  I have 2.016v Manual and I get 20mpg round town (spend quite a while in traffic jams tho, gotta love London) and 35mpg on the Motorway, I do have a heavy right foot though!

I would ditch the 2.0 + get a Cossie mate cos those mpg's arent too good.

I get 22 around town + 36 on mway in a 2.9  Shocked

I have just got back from Sheffield and my cossie did 28.4 mpg on the trip up.
This has been worked out by filling the tank before and after the run.
The fuel computer gave a reading of 28 mpg. I also have a Granada Scorpio 2.0 8 valve which will only return 30 ish on the same run.

when i first got the car it would read between 18 around town and about 28 on a long run onthe motorway and it did not take many miles for the reading to drop when you come off the motorway now it takes forever for the readings to go up and down. the first reading which goes up and down with the throttleseems to work fine and on the m-way at 70 will give me a reading between 36-38 so long as you do not move the throttle. if you put it on the next setting which gives you the average it seems very slow and it will not go over 26 even when i am on my own all the runs were over 50 miles . last half term when i went away filling the tank up would knock off 2 mpg it just seems to work really slowly and get stuck at 26.8
