Anyone shed any light as to why the drivers side half of the screen has packed up? Is there a solution other than chucking a brick through it + ringing Auto Windscreens?

Check fuses first! There's a separate one for each side of the screen.

There are connections at the bottom corner on each side that can get gunged up, clean these too.
