is the 12v 2.9 Scorpio the only model with a crap heater system. I had the 2.9 12v Scorpio pre Frogeye model and the heater was sub tropical. The Ultima I have now has the same engine but the heater is crap. I have flushed it , had the matrix tested, Bled it. It works moderately for about 3 days then start all over. What is the problem with this heater. 28 grand worth of car and no heater. Done all the resets etc. I give up.

Is this with the a/c on or off? What does the engine temperature gauge do? What does the fan do? If it is ok for a few days then the problem reoccurs then air must be getting in somewhere. I would check all the hoses, clips, coolant bottle etc. HTH

Will give stat a go.. Notice Dave you have the 24v version. Honest answer as I am thinking of upgrade to a Cossie. What is the fuel consumption.. I get max on long run 25MPG nocking about town down to 19MPG. prety poor consdering my pre frogeye scorpio with same engine never dropped below 25 mpg and on a run would return 35 MPG. Progress or what. Can it be all down to the catalytic thingy?

Well a catalytic converter will make a difference, its basically a restriction in the exhaust in terms of airflow so will bring down performance so the engine has to work slightly harder for the same speeds than a non cat car I guess, so of course MPG suffers. My 24v does about the same figures as your 12v actually! You can, and members on here do (thinking Highlander certainly) get up to 30mpg on a motorway run if you are very light footed and the car is well serviced. My trip computer is showing an average of about 23mpg at the moment. Bear in mind it is left running for 10 mins every morning to defrost (at which time it is doing 0mpg), then driven about 8 miles. Same again in the evening, some longer runs at the weekend. Of course MPG is worse in cold weather too! Cheers

The cat definitely affects mpg - and performance. I too had a 2.9 12V Granada Scorpio, and now a 2.9 12V Scorpio, and mpg is definitely poorer, although I can sometimes get 30ish mpg on a nice steady motorway run. In the Granada, I could get 35+mpg on a long run. I think the official figures confirm this too - that's progress Performance is well down too! Like everyone else, if you haven't already got one, you'll soon want one - a Cosworth. I'm looking for one. Not much worse on fuel, but performance............ Anyway, the original question? My heater is fine, always has been. Just the same as the Granada. - warms up quickly and becomes stiflingly hot if you want it too. I suspect there is either air getting in somewhere or you have a clogged matrix. Symptoms suggest the former. Tony
