Squeals like a stuck pig!

Any suggestions greatfully recieved. My beast has started squealing like the proverbial, changed the drivebelt and alternator before Christmas and was quiet for a while, now slowly back to the levels of before,it's fine after about 30 secs so thought it was the drivebelt but it's almost brand new, then maybe the tensioner, but how do I check it? Or is it something else? Oh and the wheel bearings are being done next week, both sides for £140 including parts, not to bad I think.

Mine has squeeled for about 6 months usually on idle. It is the aircon pump bearings. I jetwashed the engine before harewood last year and obviously removed any lubrication that may have been present!!! Baz

There's no a/c belt fitted, never has been, think it must be broken so rules that one out Had a bit of a play just now,it's when it's cold it's worse, once it warms up and you load the electrical side of things,it starts again, moved the steering from side to side no noise.sounds like the alternator again,it ain't a new one but it was from a low mileage one. The tensioner was a thought if you pull the belt from the top with one hand it's quite easy to move the tensioner, changing the belt was quite easy, perhaps it's not tensioning correctly, how much play should there be on the belt

hi there that's not right. you should need a big extension on the tensioner nut to move it!!

| Really, nah,it's easy, just grab hold of the top run and pull with one hand, tensioner moves it's full range of travel, not dead easy but it moves quite freely, when I changed the belt had a 17mm spanner on the pulley and it was quite easy to move it. Took it to work this morning, cold morning ,squealed for about 5 mins, came home this afternoon(about 10degrees),stopped after about 15 secs
