Electrical problems.....

Hi all first post!

My parents have a 98 (ish) 2.3 scorpio ultmia.

Over the last few days the indicators/wipers have intermittantly packed up while driving then fixed themselves.

Last night the car wouldn't start at all (no ignition lights, not cranking over) so I went & had a look for them. I found that @ the igniton switch the green ignition wire had 0volts on it so thought the contact had failed so decided to get the get the car going I'd bridge the green & black together but even apply voltage directly to it didnt bring the dash warning lights on.

I've had a quick peek round the forum & see that water/damp fuse boxes are an issue (all covers are intact & on the surface they look dry) so guess thats my starting point.

unless anyone has any other suggestion first?

thanks

Hi Blair,

welcome to the site  Smiley

My first port of call in this situation would be the fuse boxes. As this failure seems to have occured over a few days I would check that all the fuses are clean and in their place properly. Try replacing any that look suspect. It may also be the case that the fuse box covers are not on correctly, the one on the drivers side can be a bit tricky to refit. If so then you need to check for any water damage.

Also check the the large multiplug that goes to the drivers side fusebox is properly attached; it has 2 lugs that need seating before it is clipped into place or it will cause problems.

See how you get on.

cheers although I rarely do nowdays I worked on car electrics fro many years so the fuse box shouldn't be too daunting if thats what it proves to be.

can anyone confirm (cause I can't remember) if the green wires (at the switch) is an ignition live?

Well there's that stuff as well, but I'm sure there was something else about the Ignition Lock relay and what it actually does.  Maybe it was on the mail list instead  Undecided

Have you scrolled down to Hazard and direction indicators?. That shows the indicator relay in diagramatic form. I am sure someone on here must know its actual location.Have you looked behind the steering column shroud?.The scematic diagram seems to have it on the indicator unit.
