If the wheels were left 'suspended' it could be air in the system. Put an old magazine under each front wheel (to take the strain out) and turn from lock to lock a couple of times. Don't hold it in that postion!. If you are able to raise the front with a jack to take the weight off the wheels so much the better.

Being left up in the air for a bit can make the steering grumpy for a while though. Should soon settle down.

If you look at 'fault finder' under steering you will see that as Paul and I say it does sometimes occur after a car has been fully suspended and is 're-adjusting'to a fully loaded situation. The remedy I suggested is merely a way of speeding up the process- hopefully. Good luck.

I used to get this problem on my '95 Scorpio...both front wheels off the ground for a while & when put back down they would vibrate for 20 miles or so when turning either way. I've a '98 Scorpio now & this problem doesn't exist. I seem to remember that Ford had a recall on some early models which involved a power steering pipe being faulty & was suppossed to produce this problem after both front wheels had been off the ground.
