Removing /exchanging ignition lock)

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/ignitionlock.htm Simon C wrote a great description how to remove the ignition lock. But I do not understand the phrase: "Push detent on top of the lock barrel with a small screwdriver" Is there a screw? Where exactly is this "barrel" to unlock the lock? Simon C wrote (very encouraging for me) that this operation is very straitforward. I like to believe him. Any suggestions are welcome.

It is quite difficult to see, but on top of the barrrel there is a little pin type thing that you have to push in with a small screwdriver or implement, once that is pushed in you will be able to slide the barrel out regards Paul

Hi, at the top of the ignition lock (facing up towards the windscreen), when you turn the key to position 1 you will be able to push a little tab which will give slightly and the lock will pop out. You may not be able to see it very well but it is there, and you will need a small screwdriver to push the tab, like the size for tightening glasses. Hope this helps EDIT Crikey I took a long time typing that I have an ignition lock out of the car that I can photograph if you get stuck and need to get a clearer idea of what you are looking for.

On top of the barrel, I cant see anything. But about 30 dergrees down I can see a litle black thing (in plastic?). Pushing inwards means towards the steering column? You seems to have experience. I am very afraid to break this (plastic thing) I would like to take away the connector of the wiper in order to see more , but even this seems to be very complicated.

Here is a picture of an ignition barrel already removed in, I think, the same position as it is in the car. That circular silver button is what needs to be pushed in order for the barrel to release. It can only be pushed in ignition position 1, the top plastic cover of the steering column needs to be removed in order to do it, and the barrel should just pop out slightly when you push it - you can then withdraw it completely. The button has to be pushed from above, I find it best to feel for it with my finger then push it with a small screwdriver. I am afraid I am not near the car to take a picture of it in situ. The key will have to be in position 1 to refit it. Hope this helps
